The Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, has arrived Owerri, the Imo state capital to inspect the extent of damage caused by gunmen who attacked the state police command headquarters and the Owerri Correctional Centre on Monday.
The gunmen stormed the facility and freed 1,884 inmates. They also burnt no fewer than 50 vehicles, and released almost all the suspects at the police command headquarters.
Adamu insisted that members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were responsible for the attack.
The IGP said there will be no hiding place for the members of Indigenous People of Biafra, adding that the “police will not allow these criminals to succeed.”
More details shortly.
