Ikoyi building collapse: DNA technical leader confirms identity of 45 victims at disaster site

The coroner inquest into the cause of the November first Ikoyi building collapse which claimed the lives of over 40 people continued today at the Ikeja high court in Lagos.

While giving details of various tests carried out on bodies recovered from the rubble, the Director and DNA technical leader at the Lagos State DNA and forensic centre, Richard Somiari, said that identity profiles for the 45 victims were established through question samples derived from the disaster site.

Also taking the stand, the representative of the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria, Olatunde Jaiyesimi, while stating possible causes of the collapse, said that the process of construction of the structural design did not meet the required standards.

However, the state council declared Jaiyesimi’s report inconclusive as it did not correlate with the details presented in court.
