Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Abagana camp have marched in their numbers blocking the Markurdi-Lafia Federal Highway to protest the recent killings in their camps by suspected herdsmen.

The aggrieved protesters laid the corpses of the victims on the road.

Unknown gunmen invaded the Abagana IDP camp on Tuesday killing seven persons and injuring about 15 of them.

The protesters who expressed sadness about the incident says after being displaced from their initial home of residence, they are still being attacked in camps where they are barely surviving.

They thereafter warned the federal government that if anything is done about the attack, they will be left with no choice but to pick up arms in order to defend themselves.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom while attending to the protesters also challenged the federal government to rise up to the defense of vulnerable rural farming communities and Internally Displace Persons.

The governor also asked the President to allow them to acquire weapons to fight armed Fulani herdsmen causing chaos in parts of the country, attacking innocent people.

Govrnor Ortom also asked the President to convene a National Security Summit to get the true picture of the killings allegedly attributed to the bandit and also find a lasting solution to the insecurity ravaging in the country recently.
