Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 23 years in prison

Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault.

The 67-year-old, who was convicted in a trial in New York last month, appeared in court on Wednesday in a wheelchair.

Weinstein was found guilty of committing a first-degree criminal sexual act against production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006 and of the third-degree rape of aspiring actress Jessica Mann in 2013.

Judge James Burke ignored the pleas of Weinstein’s defense team to give their client the minimum of five years behind bars.

His lawyers have vowed to appeal against his conviction.

Weinstein still faces further criminal charges, for rape and sexual assault, in Los Angeles.
