Gunfire as Police, Shi’ite protesters clash in Abuja

Residents of Abuja Central area are in panic as there is currently a shootout between suspected members of the Shi’ites movement and operatives of the Nigeria Police force.

It is unclear what caused the gun battle.

The fracas ensued after members of the of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria also known as the Shi’ite sect converged at the Unity Fountain to stage a protest to demand the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Affected in the face-off is the NEMA outpost behind Federal Secretariat.

Two Vehicles and the Agency building were set ablaze.
