The Federal Government says it will address the issue of brain drain in the medical sector by making emigration unattractive for doctors.
Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, said in Abuja that the Federal Government will do everything possible to discourage physicians from leaving the country en mass to seek greener pastures.
Ehanire while speaking after inspecting work on the new Cancer Centre in Abuja said “I have heard the challenge of doctors leaving the country. We have plans to provide better funding for our hospitals in Nigeria and make such migration unattractive,”
The minster while commending the hospital for performing well during COVID-19 pandemic, pledged that the government will do everything possible to ensure that doctors will prefer to remain and work in the country.
Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Jaf Momoh, said the hospital has introduced incentives to encourage medical personnel to stay in the country. On the new cancer centre, the minister advised the hospital management to spend wisely, properly maintain the facilities when completed by seeking alternative sources of funding.
