Glo pays N2.6bn interconnect bill to MTN

Globacom has paid N2.6bn to MTN Nigeria, to settle part of its interconnect debt.

The industry regulator, Nigerian Communications Commission, had intervened in the debt issue, which led to partial disconnection of calls from Glo to MTN subscribers.

The interconnect debt is estimated at N4.4bn, and discussions are still ongoing to recover the rest of the interconnect debt from Globacom.

For more than five days, mobile communication between Globacom subscribers and MTN network users were disconnected because of the interconnect debt.

As at December last year, the interconnect debt in the industry stood at N165bn.
