Ganduje names new Emir of Kano

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has appointed the Emir of Bichi, Aminu Ado Bayero, as the new Emir of Kano.

The announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Usman Alhaji a few hours after the removal of Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The appointment takes immediate effect.

Sanusi was dethroned on by the Kano executive council at a special meeting chaired by Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of the state.

The council hinged its decision on what it described as “total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the governor” on the part of Emir Sanusi.

The development is coming a week after the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission summoned the Emir to respond to a petition accusing him of selling lands belonging to the Kano Emirate to the tune of N2 billion.
