French authorities have arrested an 18-year-old identified as Clement L over an alleged plot to abduct France captain and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe.
The teenager is accused of being involved in a series of criminal activities and kidnapping schemes between April 11 and August 19 across Neuilly-sur-Seine, Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt and Santenay, according to Le Parisien.
Mbappe, 27, was reportedly among 26 people identified as potential victims in the alleged operation, which also targeted businesspeople, rappers and other footballers for home invasions and kidnappings.
The suspect, who allegedly uses the alias Lester Z, is said to have coordinated the group through Snapchat while serving time at Villepinte prison in Seine-Saint-Denis for offences including pimping and armed robbery.
Authorities reportedly uncovered a list of intended targets on mobile phones confiscated from his prison cell, following which he was transferred to solitary confinement.
Clement L was charged in Nanterre on August 21 and placed in pretrial detention as investigations into the alleged crimes continue.
The teenager allegedly targeted Mbappe because of his Paris residence, where the France international stays during visits to the country following his commitments with Real Madrid.
Mbappe has continued playing for Real Madrid despite the reported kidnapping threat in France.
