Finidi Hails ‘Massive’ Win Over Rangers, Targets Second Place Finish for Rivers United

Rivers United technical adviser, Finidi George, has hailed his team’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Rangers as a crucial result in their push for a top finish in the league.

Samson Obi netted the decisive goal to hand Rivers United the full three points in a tightly contested match. Speaking after the game, Finidi praised his players for their character and determination, particularly in a match with high stakes.

“It was a good game from my players. They knew what was at stake. You could see in the first half we had a couple of chances we could have taken — that would have been a different game. We were lucky with the goal before the end of the first half,” Finidi said.

He added, “We held on to the lead and I think it was a massive result for the team. We are happy with the win. We have to pay attention to our next game and see how we can play well and not lose.”

Reacting to his team’s title miss, Finidi acknowledged Remo Stars’ consistent form as the decisive factor but remains confident that Rivers United can secure second place.

“We wanted to win the league, but I think the consistency of Remo Stars did it for them. It is for us to see how we can clinch the second spot, which is our motive,” he explained. “We will get that second-place ticket no matter what happens. We just have to get the boys prepared for the next game.”
