President Muhammadu Buhari has granted state pardon to Joshua Dariye, former governor of Plateau state, and Jolly Nyame, former governor of Taraba state.
They will be released from prison with 157 others following the acceptance of government’s proposal for pardon by the Council of State.
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, said the council approved 159 out of 162 applications for prerogative of mercy for convicts and inmates in correctional centres across the country.
The council however rejected a request for pardon for Francis Atuche, former managing director of Bank PHB, who was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for fraud.
While the full list of those pardoned is not immediately available, presidency source say the two former governors were pardoned on health and age grounds.
