The Federal Government has approved the National Policy on fifth generation (5G) network in Nigeria.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, disclosed this while briefing state house correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Wednesday.
There have been controversies surrounding the deployment of the 5G communications network in Nigeria after it was linked to the COVID-19 outbreak.
However, the minister says contrary controversies being spread on social media, the radiation from the 5G has proven to be lower than the 4G, televisions or micro waves.
Pantami said Nigeria will benefit a lot in terms of economic, health, security and educational gains amongst others if the 5G network is deployed in the country.
