Fact Check: President Buhari is not married to Sadiya Farouq

Minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, has debunked news that she got married to President Muhammadu Buhari, after an imposter Twitter account @Sadiya_Farouq_, circulated the fake news on Thursday.

In a tweet on Friday, Farouq clarified that the video being circulated as a pre-wedding party between herself and the president is in fact, an old video recorded on September 14.

She explained that the occasion was a party her family and friends organized to celebrate her appointment.

Farouq was commissioned as the head of the new ministry on August 21.

”Yesterday, I attended a walimah organised by my family and friends to congratulate me on my appointment as a honourable minister by President Muhammadu Buhari,” she tweeted on September 15th.

Sources confirm Farouq is not in Nigeria at the moment, but in New York where she is promoting a UN campaign against poverty.
