A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Obadiah Mailafia is dead.
The family lawyer, Yakubu Bawa, who confirmed the who confirmed the incident explained that Mailafia died on Sunday morning in Abuja.
The lawyer added that he died following a brief illness.
Apart from working with the apex bank, Mailafia was a renowned Public Affairs Analyst and he was the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress in the 2019 presidential election.
He was quite critical of the President Muhammadu-led administration especially on policy issues and insecurity.
Last year, while appearing on a radio programme with Nigeria Info Abuja 95.1FM, Mailafia alleged that some pardoned terrorists revealed that a serving northern governor was a Boko Haram leader. He was thereafter invited for questioning by the State Security Service based on the allegation.
He later retracted the claim, saying he had no evidence to defend it.
The deceased who was 64 years old at the time of his death is survived by his wife and children.
