Ex – Nigerian boxer and coach, Jerry Okorodudu says he went through a lot of struggle after the sports ministry refused to pay his three months outstanding salary, after his contract was terminated in 2018.
The boxer said he even struggled to feed his family and was in dire need of financial assistance to take care of his health.
Speaking in an interview with the Punch newspapers over the weekend, Okorodudu in revealed that he finally received the outstanding payment of N300,000 on Tuesday.
According him, Sports Minister, Sunday Dare had promised to pay him the money in August 2020, after he underwent surgery for an undisclosed illness.
He said the surgery was sponsored by the minister and some ex – boxers who came together to support him.
The 1979 National Sports Festival gold medalist is currently unemployed, with his trader wife shouldering the responsibilities of his family.
