Kaduna state Governor Nasir El-Rufai has reshuffled his cabinet with some commissioners swapping positions and senior government officials assigned new portfolios.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adeleke, said in a statement that eight of the 14 commissioners swapped portfolios.
He added that the changes did not affect the ministries of Finance, Justice, Health, Housing & Urban Development, Internal Security and Home Affairs and Human Services and Social Development.
Khalil Nur Khalil, a 28-year-old, was appointed as executive secretary of Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency.
The Chief of Staff to the governor, Muhammad Abdullahi, was redeployed to the ministry of Planning & Budget, a position he held during El-Rufai’s first term in office.
“Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, the Chief of Staff, returns to the Planning and Budget Commission, the responsibility he held with distinction during Malam El-Rufai’s first term.
“It is the second time that a chief of staff to the governor is being reassigned as commissioner. In 2019, Muhammad Bashir Saidu, then chief of staff, was redeployed to the Ministry of Finance,” the statement read in part.
The commissioners and their new portfolios are Jaafaru Sani, Environment; Thomas Gyang, Public Works and Infrastructure; Halima Lawal, Education, Ibrahim Hussaini, Agriculture; Shehu Usman Muhammad; Local Government; Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, Planning & Budget Commission; Kabir Mato, Business, Innovation & Technology; Idris Nyam, Sports Development.
Adekeye said the reshuffle was designed to help harness fresh energy for the final lap of El-Rufai administration and bring new insights as well as enable commissioners to have more rounded experience of the government.
