The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Biodun Oyebanji, the winner of the Ekiti State governorship election.
The Returning Officer for the election, Kayode Adebowale, explained that Oyebanji polled a total of 187, 057 to win the election while Segun Oni candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, garnered 82,211 votes to emerge the first runner up, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP got 67,457 votes to come third in the election.
INEC’s Chief Returning Officer, Kayode Adebowale, declared Oyebanji winner of the election after the collation of the results of the supplementary election in seven polling units.
Announcing the results, Adebowale said Oyebanji having scored the highest number of votes was declared the winner and returned elected as the Governor-elect of Ekiti State.
Oyebanji is the immediate past Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and had previously served in the first tenure of Mr Fayemi, from 2010 to 2014, traversing a couple of ministries as commissioner.
At the return of Fayemi to the governorship seat in 2018, he was appointed the SSG, a position he held until he resigned in December 2021 to vie for the governorship ticket of the APC.
Oyebanji is now set to replace incumbent Kayode Fayemi in October.
