Eight killed in autocrash along Lagos-Ibadan highway


Eight persons have been confirmed dead with 12 others injured in an accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The auto-crash, which happened around Danco and Berger axis, involved three trucks and four cars.

Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Agency, Tunde Akinbiyi, while confirming the accident said the accident was caused by reckless driving.

“From investigations, it was learnt that the unfortunate fatal crash was caused by the over speeding, reckless driving and loss of control on the part of one of vehicles involved which led to a container falling off from its hook on two buses and other vehicles ramming into each other in the process, in an attempt to escape from the scene,” Akinbiyi said.

He gave details of the vehicles as include: LSR 560 XJ, Toyota bus white; XD 792 EZA Masda bus; ABC 512 ZV, Ash, Toyota Sienna; APP 196 RQ gold, Toyota Camry; DED 776 XA red, Iveco Tipper; APP 248 XT white, Daf Tipper and LND 04 XX.

Akinbiyi also confirmed that he corpses and five of the injured victims were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) while seven injured victims taken to FAMOBIS Hospital Lotto.

“The crash scene has been cordoned off, on the inbound lane of the expressway. The motoring public are advised to drive cautiously along the diversion route created by Julius Berger and avoid speeding beyond 50kmph on the stretch,” he said.
