DSS denies its personnel accidentally shot man in Anambra state

The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied news that its staff shot a man while targeting a stray cow in Alor Community, Anambra State.

In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, on December 27th, the DSS described the news as false and erroneous

The Police has further issued a statement informing the public that it was yet to conclude its investigation to determine the actual killer of the person in question. The DSS said enquiries indicate that a member of a vigilante group in the area carried out the shooting.

The DSS is urging the public to disregard the story that the DSS personnel shot anyone in the community.

Afunanya said: “Arms handling in the Service is guided by strict control procedures and measures, such that none of its staff could have used his/her assigned gun to shoot an innocent native or escaping cow.”

The PRO added that the DSS is professional and will remain so, in the discharge of its duties, as they aim to maintain peace and public safety across the country during and after the yuletide season.
