Detention Of Mamu Tukur: DSS Urges The Public Not To Distract Its Efforts

The arrest and detention of Mamu Tukur, an aide to Ahmad Gumi, a popular Islamic cleric by the Department of State Services (DSS) has continued to generate mixed reactions by sections of the public.

Mamu, who was at the forefront of negotiations for the release of the Kaduna-train captives, was arrested at the Cairo Airport while on his way to Saudi Arabia.

He subsequently returned to Nigeria and has since been in the custody of the DSS whose investigation is ongoing.

Commenting on the detention of Mamu by the Nigerian Secret Police, Gumi described same as an act of terrorism, just as he urged the DSS to either charge him to court or release him.

Reacting to what he termed “overzealous comments” the Public Relations Officer for the DSS, Peter Afunanya in a Statement made available to Journalists ‘advised the public to cease unguided utterances and allow it to concentrate on the ongoing investigations, the outcomes of which have remained mind-boggling.’

Afunanya said the Service wished that its effort is not distracted with some of the skewed narratives pervading the media space.

He disclosed that meanwhile, the Service will cease further comments on the subject matter since the Court will determine its course.
