I find it hard to believe a military as large as Nigeria’s can have such trouble stopping Boko Haram. The insurgents have exploited the disorganized response to the terrorist threat, the lack of leadership from the federal government and a lack of a regional strategy to escalate their terrorist acts.

Security is one of the most important public goods any government needs to provide for its people. I’d like to hear what the short, medium and long term plans are to defeat Boko Haram. Might integrating troops from the states affected by Boko Haram be one solution? They know the area, people and culture better. Also, they have a stake in reestablishing order as this is an area they live in and grew up in.

I’d also like to know what the direct links are between AlQuaida and Boko Haram are. Does the federal government know how many insurgents are in the Sambisa forest? Who is funding them and why it has taken so long to find the Chinok girls? The Nigerian owes its citizens a lot of answers.
