President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to provide security for every Nigerian.

This comes after over not less than 17 persons were reported killed in a shiite clash with operatives of the police force in Abuja.

Adamu disclosed this to State House correspondents on Monday when he briefed President Buhari on the activities of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), at the Aso Villa in Abuja.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International has condemned the use of live bullets to disperse protesting members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN).

Seun Bakare, Programme Manager at Amnesty International Nigeria, described the police action as “reckless use of lethal force” while calling on the police to exercise restraint in the use of force against protesters.
