Covid-19 pandemic: One million people have died so far – WHO

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has confirmed that the world hit the “tragic milestone” of one million COVID-19 deaths in 2022 and nearly 6.45 million deaths since the virus was first detected in China late 2019.

WHO Director General, Tedros Ghebreyesus in a briefing said the world cannot claim that it is “learning to live with COVID-19” when tens of thousands of deaths are still occurring – despite having all the tools needed to prevent them.
