COVID-19: NRC suspends all passenger railway services

The Nigeria Railway Corporation(NRC) has announced that it will be suspending all passenger railway services in the country from March 23.

Spokesperson for the commission, Yakubu Mahmood in a statement released over the weekend said the move is a measure aimed at checking the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

He said “further information will be made available in due course to our esteemed passengers.”

Earlier, the federal government ordered the closure of all tertiary institutions and Unity schools across the country in a bid to check the spread of the infection.

It also limited international flights into the country to just two airports – Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja.

So far, Nigeria has 12 confirmed cases of the disease, with two persons fully recovered and discharged.
