COVID 19: NCDC reports 8 additional casualties as death toll rises to 3,066


Nigeria on Thursday reported 791 fresh COVID-19 cases of Covid 19 infections.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, the positive samples were reported across 13 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Lagos State topped the infection chart with 523 cases, followed by FCT and Oyo with 84 and 48 cases respectively.

Others are Ondo-35, Kano-22, Borno-16, Delta-15, Edo-15, Ogun-9, Jigawa, Bauchi-6, Plateau-5, Rivers-4, Bayelsa-2.

The disease centre said 249 of the cases submitted by Lagos are for January 5, 2022.

With the new confirmed cases, the infection toll has increased to 246,195.

Meanwhile the fatality toll now stands at 3,066, as eight additional deaths were recorded by the health agency.

The new data confirms the fluctuation in the rising cases of fresh infections but a consistent increase in fatality with Nigeria recording 31 deaths between December 31, 2021 and January 6, 2022.

According to the latest data, the number of discharged cases now stands at 217,509, as the FCT also reported 108 discharged cases, including 102 community discharges.
