The Chinese city of Qingdao says plans are underway to test its entire population of nine million people for COVID 19 over a period of five days.
The mass testing comes after a dozen cases were found linked back to a hospital treating coronavirus patients arriving from overseas.
It added that more than 140,000 people, mainly working in the health sector were tested immediately after the first positive COVID 19 cases emerged.
In May, China tested the entire city of Wuhan, home to 11 million people and the epicentre of the global pandemic.
Recently, China has only recorded coronavirus infections imported from abroad. The country brought the virus’ spread under control with tough measures such as lockdown in cities, strict isolation and entry bans.
