The Federal High Court in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, has sentenced Yinusa Dahiru to 26 years in prison, after finding him guilty of rape, and child trafficking, in a case that was filed five years ago.
Dahiru had abducted Ese Oruru from her home in Bayelsa, to Kano on August 12th, 2015.
He married her, converted her to Islam and changed her name to Aisha.
On May 26, 2016, Ese was delivered of a baby girl.
Ese was eventually returned to her parents, after months of outcry from human rights activists and police investigations, and Dahiru was charged with child trafficking, child abuse, rape, kidnap, infringement on the right to religion, and holding a person against her will.
Dahiru was granted bail on March 21st, 2016, but was finally convicted on Wednesday.
