Court nullifies creation of new Kano Emirates

A Kano State High Court on Thursday nullified the appointment and creation of four additional Emirates in State by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

The order was delivered by Justice Usman Na’abba, who held that due process was not followed in the creation of the Emirates.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had earlier in May approved a bill passed by the state House of Assembly seeking the establishment of four additional first-class Emirates – Rano, Gaya, Karaya and Bichiin – in Kano State.

Following this, one Rabi’u Sule-Gwarzo approached a Kano High Court challenging the decision of the governor to create the four additional emirates in the state.

The court then issued an order restraining Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje from taking any action to legitimize the four new emirates.

But despite the court order, the governor presented letters of appointment to the four new first-class Emirs in a ceremony held at the state capital.

Ganduje during the presentation said the creation of an additional four Emirates will make the Kano traditional system more efficient.
