Court Affirms Simon Lalong as Plateau State Governor

Simon Lalong of Plateau State has been affirmed as Governor of the state by the Court of Appeal in Jos, the state capital on Friday.

The Court dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate, Jeremiah Useni.

Useni had challenged Lalong’s victory citing various forms of irregularities during the election which held on March 23, 2019.

But ruling on the application on Friday, the court struck out the suit for lacking in merit.

Lalong was declared the winner by the Returning Officer in the state, Richard Kimbir, after scoring 595,582 votes to defeat 23 other candidates, including Jeremiah Useni, who garnered 546,813 votes.
