Coup D’état in ECOWAS sub region: Tunis calls for restoration of constitutional order


The Community Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS has identified Constitutional abuse, lack of transparency in the electioneering processes, corruption as well as civil unrest resulting from unplanned change in constitution as factors which promote coups d’état in the sub region.

Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, Sidie Tunis said this while presenting his welcome address at the 2022 First Extraordinary Session in Mon-rovia the capital of Liberia.

Sidie described the political situation in the Republic of Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso as threatening issues that require urgent attention.

President of the Republic of Liberia, George Weah who declared the Extra Ordinary Session open, commended the leadership of the ECOWAS Parliament for always being at the forefront of seeking ways to promote democracy and restore peace to the sub region.
