Coronavirus: Hong Kong doctor arrested on suspicion of issuing thousands of false vaccine exemption certificates, overcharging patients

A Hong Kong doctor has been arrested on suspicion of issuing more than 7,000 coronavirus vaccination exemption certificates without proper diagnosis of patients.

According to local media, police raided Dr Annie Choi Suk-mui’s private clinic on Monday after complaints that the 64-year-old general practitioner had abused the government’s vaccine exemption procedures.

The doctor is suspected of the creation of false documents and overcharging patients at the clinic. Officers seized computer records from the clinic as part of the investigation.

Chief Inspector Tai Yuk-lun of the police’s Yuen Long division said Choi was alleged to have issued government template “Covid-19 vaccination medical exemption certificates” at the request of patients without a consultation or examination of their medical records.

It is also claimed she failed to follow Department of Health instructions.

Meanwhile, Choi has been released on bail pending further investigation.
