As part initiatives to eliminate toxic mercury in lighting, the Lagos state government in partnership with the Sustainable Research and Action for Environmental Development, SRADev, has launched L E D retrofit, a project involving the conversion of mercury based fluorescent lamps to Light-Emitting Diode technology.

The end of the pilot phase which forms part of the Clean Lighting Coalition, was signalled with a press briefing at the Lagos state ministry of health secretariat, and an inspection of the Folarin Coker Staff Hospital which was used for the implementation of the 6-month long project.
