The federal government has reacted to calls for President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation.
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday said the calls for the president to leave office are not realistic.
He noted that Buhari has the overwhelming mandate of Nigerians to preside over the affairs of the country till the expiration of his tenure in May 2023.
Senate Minority Leader, Eyinnaya Abaribe, had called for Buhari’s resignation saying his administration is incapable of handling security threats in the country.
The Minister also alleged that the spread of fake news and misinformation has aggravated insecurity in the country.
He said this while reacting to a recent report by Amnesty International accusing the Nigerian military of burning some villages in Borno.
The minister warns the Human Rights Group not to cast themselves in the league of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists, as this may demoralize the country’s troop.
