Buhari orders release of 40,000 tones of grains from strategic reserves

To cushion the effect of rising price of commodities in the country, especially during the Easter and Ramadan period, the Federal Government has ordered the release of about 40,000 metric tonnes of assorted grains from the Strategic Grains Reserve.

The minister of agriculture and rural development, Mohammed Abubakar, disclosed this while addressing state house correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the minister, the distribution process would replicate the model used during the Covid-19 lockdown where the federal government distributed 70,000 metric tons of assorted food items across some states and the Federal Capital Territory.
