President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mele Kyari as the new Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Kyari will replace Maikanti Baru, the current GMD who was appointed in July 2016 and now retiring.
His appointment takes effect from July 7, 2019.
This is the second appointment the president is making since his inauguration in May. Hours before Kyari’s appointment, President Buhari extended the tenure of the Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris.
The President has also appointed seven new Chief Operating Officers for the state-owned oil company. The new officers are: Roland Ewubare – Chief Operating Officer, Upstream; Mustapha Yakubu – Chief Operating Officer, Refining and Petrochemicals; Yusuf Usman – Chief Operating Officer, Gas and Power.
Others are Lawrencia Ndupu – Chief Operating Officer, Ventures; Umar Ajiya – Chief Financial Officer; Adeyemi Adetunji – Chief Operating Officer, Downstream; and Farouk Said – Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Services, whose appointment takes effect from 28th June, 2019.
President Buhari has directed all the new appointees work with the current occupants of the various positions between now and 7th July, 2019 towards a smooth transition on 8 July, 2019.
