BREAKING: Police take over Cross River assembly after Lawmakers’ sacking

Security operatives have taken over the Cross River state house of assembly.

The operatives include officers from the anti-kidnapping squad, cultism squad, and regular policemen.

The officers were seen around the routes leading to the state house of assembly while movement into the assembly complex was restricted.

The development comes after a federal high court in Abuja sacked 20 members of the state house of assembly following their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The court presided over by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, had ordered the removal of the 18  lawmakers from the State and two in the House of Representatives for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in May 2021, along with Governor Ben Ayade.

The ruling APC has claimed to have applied to the court for stay of execution of the judgment, while the party proceeded to the Appeal Court.
