BREAKING: First batch of Astrazeneca vaccines finally arrive Nigeria


The expected 3.92 million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines have finally arrived the country.

The vaccines arrived around noon on Tuesday via an Emirates airline at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, in Abuja.

The fresh batches were received by Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk and a host of others.

The country is expecting a total of 16 million doses of the vaccine that will be delivered in batches over months.

Nigeria’s Primary Health Care Development Agency earlier said that frontline health workers will be among the first to receive the jab.

Members of the Senate, Ministers as well as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha have also been scheduled to take the vaccine on March 8, 2021.

A registration portal has also been opened for people to register for vaccination.

The government plans to vaccinate at least 70% of the population aged 18 years and above in four phases within two years.

Nigeria has so far recorded over 150,000 cases of Covid-19 infections and nearly 2,000 deaths.
