BREAKING: APC commences screening of presidential aspirants


Ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, the party has commenced screening of presidential aspirants seeking to fly the party’s flag in the 2023 general elections.

While John Oyegun, a former national chairman of the party, is in charge of the screening exercise, the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; the party’s National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and other party leaders are already at the venue of the exercise,

The screening exercise which would be concluded within two days is being held at the Transcorp Hilton in the federal capital territory (FCT).

The screening panel is expected to vet the credentials of 23 presidential hopefuls.

Felix Morka, APC spokesman, had said 28 presidential forms were purchased, but three persons — Chris Ngige, minister of labour; Timipre Sylva, minister of state for petroleum: and Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) — did not submit their forms.

A form was also purchased for Akinwumi Adesina, president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), but he said he was not interested in contesting.

Here is the list of the hopefuls that the panel is expected to screen;

Apart from Tinubu and Osinbajo, others included in the list are Senate President Ahmed Lawan and former ministers Rotimi Amaechi, Ogbonnaya Onu, Godswill Akpabio, and Chukwuemeja Nwajiuba.

Serving governors who are also listed for the screening are Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Ben Ayade (Cross River) and Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa).

Others are former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former House of Representatives Speaker Dimeji Bankole and serving Senators Ibikunle Amosun, Ajayi Boroffice, and Rochas Okorocha.

President Buhari’s running mate in 2011, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Uju Ken-Ohanenye, Nicholas Felix, Ahmad Rufai Sani, Tein Jack-Rich, Ikeobasi Mokelu are also expected to face the screening panel.
