The students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Zamfara State, who were abducted on Friday by bandits have regained their freedom.
Governor Bello Matawalle announced the release of the kidnapped students on his official Twitter handle.
“Alhamdulillah! It gladdens my heart to announce the release of the abducted students of GGSS Jangebe from captivity. This follows the scaling of several hurdles laid against our efforts. I enjoin all well-meaning Nigerians to rejoice with us as our daughters are now safe,” he tweeted.
The released girls arrived at the Zamfara State Government House in Gusau early on Tuesday.
Matawalle put the number of girls recovered at 279, although the police had earlier said 317 girls were kidnapped.
