Bauchi lawmakers elect new speaker

Abubakar Suleiman, lawmaker representing Ningi Central Constituency (APC) has been elected Speaker of the 9th Bauchi state House of Assembly.

Suleiman was elected by eleven out of the thirty-one members of the house.

The house has also elected Danlami Kawule, member representing Zungur/Galambi, as Deputy speaker.

He was nominated by Babayo Muhammad, member representing Hardawa constituency, while Jamilu Umar Dahiru, who is representing Bauchi central constituency, seconded the nomination.

The authenticity of the election has been questioned since the house did not form a quorum.

A quorum is the minimum number of members of a deliberative assembly necessary to conduct the business of that group.
