At least 40 killed in northeast Congo massacre


Suspected Islamist militants have reportedly killed at least 40 people in Samboko village in northeastern Congo,

Centre for the Promotion of Peace, Democracy and Human Rights (CEPADHO) said fighters from the Allied Democratic Forces launched the attack on Tuesday morning.

CEPADHO spokesperson, Omar Kavota, noted that the militants killed at least 40 people with machetes and looted food and valuables.

This is coming a day after about 17 people were killed in the nearby village of Makutano.

According to the Kivu Security Tracker, over 400 people have been killed in attacks attributed to the ADF since the army began an offensive to oust the group from its bases last year.
