ASUP embarks on strike


The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has commenced an indefinite strike with immediate effect.

The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, wa scheduled to meet the lecturers on Tuesday morning in a bid to stop the action.

But the ASUP President, Anderson Ezeibe at a press briefing in Abuja, said academic activities has been shut shown in all polytechnics and like institutions nationwide.

According to the union, the industrial action kicks off on Tuesday, April 6th.

The union said this followed the failure of the government to address the sorry state of polytechnics and monotechnics and the expiration of the ultimatum issued since March 2020.

The striking lecturers are demanding the implementation of a new salary scheme and payment of salaries and promotion allowances owed lecturers by some state governments.

Ezeibe while insisting that strike will go on, however, noted that the union will be open for dialogue with the Federal Government to resolve the issues raised.
