APC Governors welcome Umahi, says his defection a homecoming

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressive Congress have welcomed the recently defected Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, into their fold saying party’s reinforcement has started.

According to a statement released by the Progressive Governors’ Forum and signed by its Chairman and Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Bagudu, Umahi’s entry into the APC, from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, is a homecoming.

Welcoming Umahi into their midst, the Governors described his defection as a testament to the party’s capacity to mobilise all Nigerians.

The statement read in part, “The Progressive Governors Forum heartily welcome His Excellency, Chief David Nweze Umahi, Governor of Ebonyi State to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

“We celebrate the decision of Chief Umahi as a testament to our party’s capacity to mobilise all Nigerians.

“With Chief Umahi now in APC, the vision is further reinforced and shall contribute to the process of membership and leadership recruitment at all levels.”

Bagudu said Umahi was able to take the bold step to join the party, based on the party’s impressive performance against all odds.

He added that Umahi’s defection was a strong acknowledgment of President Buhari’s credentials as a fair leader with a balanced and equitable disposition to issues of justice and impartial politics.

The forum thereafter reaffirmed its commitment to support President Muhammadu Buhari in building the  All Progressives Congress as a strong and democratic political party in the country.
