Anti-corruption police arrest Michel Platini for awarding 2022 World Cup to Qatar


Former UEFA president Michel Platini has been arrested for awarding the 2022 World Cup to Quatar.

The French legend had voted for Qatar as part of the bidding process for the 2022 World Cup.

63 year old Platini was taken into custody on Tuesday morning as part of the investigation into the awarding of the World Cup to Qatar, and is being held at premises of the Anti-Corruption Office of the Judicial Police (OCLCIFF)

In 2015, he was banned by the Fifa Ethics Committee for a breach unrelated to the 2022 World Cup vote.
