Akwa Ibom State government says it is planning to convert solid waste being generated in the state to electricity to power its industrial city.
This was revealed by the Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources, Charles Udoh .
Udoh said government is already in talks with foreign investors on the project, but said the outbreak of Covid 19 has changed a lot and the economic dynamic of the state.
The commissioner said, the riverine nature of the state makes the use of incinerator not appropriate. He said waste in the state would be used to generate electricity.
The electricity according to him will be used to power the industrial city in Itam that houses the tissue, plastic, toothpick, and pencil factories.
