Akwa Ibom Journalist Freed After 4 Weeks in DSS Cusody


Kufre Carter, a sports journalist in Akwa Ibom State, has been released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Carter worked at a local radio station in Akwa Ibom, until he was arrested on April 27th, by the DSS for allegedly making defamatory remarks against the state Commissioner for Health, Dominic Ukpong.

The DSS says he faulted the commissioner’s handling of the efforts to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic in the state, and charged him with defamation.

Carter’s lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, confirmed that his client was released on Wednesday.
