A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to release human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore and his co-defendant Olawale Bakare within the next 24 hours.
Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu reproved the DSS for asking the sureties of Sowore and Bakare to come forward after she had signed a release warrant for both men.
The judge also ordered the DSS to pay the sum of N100, 000 to the defendants for foisting “frivolous adjournment” on the court.
Justice Ojukwu later adjourned the matter till Friday, December 6, 2019. She blamed the adjournment of trial on failure of the prosecution to comply with her order directing them to serve some documents on the defence team led by Femi Falana (SAN).
