Abuja-Kaduna Train attack: Bandits Release Seven More Kidnapped Passengers


Seven of the abducted passengers of the March 28 train attack in Kaduna have regained their freedom.

The victims were released on Wednesday morning after spending 135 days in the custody of the terrorists.

Altough it is not clear if any ransom was paid to the terrorists for their release, a  member of the negotiating team,Tukur Mamu,  in a televised interview said that six of the released victims are members of the same family, which include a couple and their four children.

The names of the six family members are Abubakar Idris Garba, a father of four; his wife, Maryama Abubakar Bobbo, their eldest son, Ibrahim Abubakar Garba who is 10 years old, Fatima Abubakar Garba, seven years; Imran Abubakar Garba, five years old, and Zainab Abubakar Garba who is only one and a half years,  a 60-year-old woman Aisha Hassan was also released, making the them seven.

The father of the four kids, Abubakar, is the son of a former Military Administrator of Kano and Benue States, Major General Chris Garba.

Wednesday’s release is coming a few days after five other victims of the abducted Kaduna-bound train was freed by the terrorists.

So far, 42 victims have regained their freedom, and the number of those still in captivity now stands at 35.

On March 28, gunmen blown up the rail track and attacked a train heading to Kaduna from Abuja, killing some and abducting scores of passengers,

In June, 11 of the abductees were released. In July, seven of the abducted passengers were freed, and on August 2, five abducted passengers were released.
