Eaglets defeat hosts Turkey in UEFA U17 tournament


Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have defeated their hosts Turkey 2-0 in the UEFA U17 International Tournament campaign.

The game took place at the TFF Hasan Dogan National Teams Camp and Training Facilities on Sunday.

Olakunle Olusegun scored the first goal in the 10th minute before substitute Divine Nwachukwu sealed the win for the five-time world champions in the 90th minute.

In their next game on Tuesday, Nigeria’s U-17 side will battle Guatemala before wrapping up their group games against Senegal on Thursday.

Manu Garba, Head coach of the team, said the tournament was a perfect opportunity to test the players potential for the task ahead at the U-17 World Cup next month in Brazil.

“I am very optimistic that the tournament will come good for the players to stand the test of time in Brazil, playing Turkey is definitely a strong test for the team,” Manu said after the game.

The eight participating teams at the UEFA/CAF U17 International Tournament are hosts Turkey, Nigeria, Scotland, Angola, Cameroon, Senegal, Paraguay and Guatemala.
