42 people killed in Cameroon landslide

The death toll from the landslide caused by heavy rains in Cameroon’s Bafoussam town has risen to 42 people overnight.

Rescue teams have spent the last two days scouring the rubble of destroyed houses for survivors. Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV) reported that the bodies of 26 children are among the recovered bodies.

Heavy rains have continued beyond the end of Central Africa’s rainy season, causing severe flooding which has displaced nearly 30,000 people in Cameroon’s neighbour, the Central African Republic.
